  • Wendy Swartz, President

    Wendy Swartz is the President of The Autism Society Greater Tucson, the Arizona State Representative to the Society Assembly and the current Chairman for the 7th Annual Piece the Puzzle Autism Walk / Run & Resource Fair. Wendy was the Vice President for 2 years prior to being elected President. She has participated in National and local events and trainings that support individuals in the Tucson community.

    Wendy has a passion for Special Education Law and helping newly diagnosed families. Wendy is a graduate of the Partners in Policymaking Program (2006) and a 2011-2012 AZ LEND (Leadership, Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities) Trainee.

    Wendy is a mother of 6; in 2003 she gave birth to triplets who were all diagnosed with Autism before the age of 3. Since this time Wendy has been involved with the Autism Society Greater Tucson. As a parent seeking information and support then she served as a committee member and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2007.

    In Wendy’s previous life she was a Pastry Chef at a local Tucson Country Club for 13 years, then founder of Specialty Cakes by Wendy which she “retired” from prior to the birth of her triplets. If Wendy had any spare time she would enjoy scrapbooking and sewing.

    Mary Stevenson is the mother of two amazing kids who were both diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in 2006. Since that time, Mary has had two priorities: education and advocacy.

    Before moving to Tucson in the Fall of 2008, Mary was employed by The Autism Program at The Center for Development and Disability (CDD) at the University of New Mexico as a Family Specialist for the Southwest Region of New Mexico. She also sat on the board of the New Mexico Autism Society and the Advisory Committee for the New Mexico State University Speech and Language Center.

    Mary has been on the Board of Directors of the Greater Tucson Chapter since 2009 and is currently pursuing her Masters in Special Education. Her goal is become a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst.

    Mary is committed to promoting the education and training of persons with autism, their families and the professional personnel who work with them.

    He is a proud father of a 13 year old son who has been diagnosed with autism and a 1 year old daughter. Levon is a senior accountant at the Gabriell Louma CPA firm and has been working as an accountant for 17 years. One of Levon’s major focus’ is to provide people who have developmental disabilities or or have children with developmental disabilities valuable tax information.


  • Amanda Heyser, MS.Ed., Secretary

    Amanda has formulated innovative therapies, treatment plans and instructional strategies designed to meet emotional, academic and physical needs for children diagnosed with developmental disabilities. She is married to Mike Heyser and they have a 23 year old son, Billy.

    Amanda serves on the Board of Directors for the National Organization of the Disorders of the Corpus Callosum and was appointed to serve on the Special Education Advisory Panel for Arizona’s State Board of Education. Amanda presents to national audiences on instructional strategies and interventions for disabled students. She is a featured contributor at www.30SecondMom.com a web based resource and free mobile app created for busy Mom’s on the go.

    Amanda owns an active special education consulting company called, SpecialEd Smart, LLC. She has years of experience in general, special education, early childhood intervention services and as an inclusion specialist. You may contact her for a consultation through her company.

    is the mother of two wonderful children; a fifteen year old boy, Gustavo, and an eleven year old girl, Vanessa. She is actively involved in the autism community. She joined the Autism Society of Greater Tucson Board in December 2010. Professionally she has worked as a Software Developer for more than 20 years.

    My name is Jackie Vasquez, I am a Tucson Native. I graduated from Arizona State University in 2008 with my bachelors degree in K-12 cross-categorical special education. While at Arizona State I was part of the 2008 national championship softball team. I have been teaching special education for the last 4 years. I have had the privilege to teach elementary, middle school and high school children with Autism. I currently teach in a self contained Autism kindergarten classroom in TUSD. I am currently pursuing my masters degree in Autism spectrum disorders and have had two years of ABA training under world renowned BCBA, Dr. Justin Leaf. In my spare time, I enjoying volunteering with my therapy dog “Reba”. Reba loves children with Autism and is an member of my classroom and love working in the Autism community.
