Sensory Jump Night at Pump It Up
May 28, 2013 · 5:30 pm · 7:00 pm
Pump It Up of Tucson
Admission is $9.00 per child, Adults with children are free!
Pump It Up offers special Pop-In Playtime sessions specifically for
children with special needs only. Bring your child to bounce, jump and
slide in our private arenas filled with gigantically fun inflatable’s. Come
to bounce, laugh and have fun in a clean and safe environment where you can meet others or just play with your children. Pump It Up is an ideal location for support
groups. play therapy and social events for individuals on the autism spectrum or other special needs, their family and friends, and the professionals who work with them. So feel free to bring your Occupational Therapists, too!.
These private playtimes are designed exclusively for children with
special needs and their families — the music is turned off and the bounce arenas are less crowded, so children aren’t as likely to be over stimulated as in other similar environments that might be noisier. But besides avoiding overstimulation, bouncing in this sort of environment also can provide therapeutic benefits for sensory challenges by creating a calming sensation called proprioceptive input.
For added bouncing benefit, children could wear firm-fitting clothing,
especially if it has a stretchy quality, like dance clothing. The firm
pressure along their skin provides calming information to the brain and keeps the brain organized as they play. It’s the perfect sensation for therapeutic benefit.

AMC Theatres (AMC) and the Autism Society have teamed up to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis with the “Sensory Friendly Films” program.
The program provides a special opportunity for families to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment. The auditoriums dedicated to the program have their lights up, the sound turned down and audience members are invited to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing!
The idea for the program began with a request from a parent with an autistic child for a special screening at AMC Columbia Mall 14 in Columbia, MD. More than 300 children and parents attended the first screening.
We are thrilled that the program is now at many locations nationwide. The Autism Society Greater Tucson and AMC are so proud to be making a difference in the lives of Americans living with an autism spectrum disorder by offering families a chance to see a movie together — often for the very first time.
In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Additionally, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing – in other words, AMC’s “Silence is Golden®” policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned.
